Stepping out of my comfort zone
As an engineering major, I didn’t have a lot of opportunities to showcase my design skills. The Daily UI Challenge was a great way to push myself out of my comfort zone and design user interfaces based on the prompts given. Other than icons, I tried to create all the illustrations in these challenges too.
Day 1: Sign Up
Day 2: Credit Card Checkout
Day 3: Landing Page
Day 4: Calculator
Day 5: App Icon
Day 6 & 7: User Profile & Settings
Day 8: 404 Error
Day 9: Music Player
Day 10: Share
After 10 days, I feel a little more confident in using Figma to create vector illustrations. I’ve also made use of the plugins (Iconify, CoolHue, Mockup) for the icons, colours and mockups seen. They helped a lot, especially since I tried to limit the time taken for each daily challenge to a maximum of 2 hours.
I also managed to play around with different colour schemes and typography. I hope to pay more attention to this and design guidelines in the next phase of the challenge.
What’s up for the next 10 days? There are still a lot for me to explore — I would like to try my hand in creating prototypes to showcase smooth transitions. With the experience from the last 10 days, I’m more comfortable with the idea of illustrating with Figma. Perhaps I will also try other prototyping platforms such as Adobe XD (a have some experience in this) and Sketch.
